Nov. 8, 2009

Offense: Brandon Cook, Wartburg College, Bondurant, Iowa/Bondurant-Farrar
Cook, a freshman forward, helped guide the third-seeded Knights to their second consecutive Iowa Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament title and their fifth overall en route to a seventh consecutive NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship berth. He topped the team with a goal and four assists for six points.
Defense: Mike Miniaci, Wartburg College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson
Miniaci, a sophomore defender, held Central's Cody Jandik, Dubuque's Idrissa Soumaoro and Loras' Miguel Bonilla to just one total goal in three matches during the Knights' conference tournament championship run.

Nov. 1, 2009

Offense: Miguel Bonilla, Loras College, Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar
Bonilla, a junior forward, scored three goals during the week in wins over Clarke (2-1) and Simpson (3-1). He scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute against Clarke and then added two more against the Storm.
Defense: Steve O’Meara, Luther College, Darien, Ill./Hinsdale
O’Meara, a sophomore goalkeeper, tallied six saves in a 1-0 overtime victory over Coe, including two at point blank range late in regulation. The shutout was his seventh of the year.

Oct. 25, 2009

Offense: Brett McKenzie, Central College, Lindenhurst, Ill./Antioch
McKenzie, a junior forward, tied the Central single-game scoring record with four goals in the first 52 minutes of a 4-2 victory over Coe. He has a team-high 10 goals this season.
Defense: Matt Splittgerber, Loras College, Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown
Splittgerber, a senior defender, scored the game-winning goal against Washington (Mo.) University Oct. 25 with a 25-yard shot to the upper corner of the net. He also picked up an assist and anchored the backline in a 2-1 win over Dubuque Oct. 21. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)

Oct. 18, 2009

Offense: Chris Talac, University of Dubuque, Naperville, Ill./Naperville
Talac, a senior forward, came off the bench on Senior Day to score a goal and assist on two others to help the Spartans remain undefeated in IIAC action (12-1-2, 5-0 IIAC).
Defense: Nate Minkel, Loras College, Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown
Minkel, a senior defender, was a key cog for Loras defensively while also contributing a goal and an assist offensively against Wartburg to keep the Duhawks unbeaten in the Iowa Conference. He also added an assist in a 5-0 win at Coe Oct. 14.

Oct. 11, 2009

Offense: Nate Hedrington, Wartburg College, Madison, Wis./Edgewood
Hedrington, a junior forward, led the Knights to a 3-0 week with team bests in goals, assists, and points. He scored a goal and an assist in a win over Upper Iowa and both goals in an IIAC victory over Buena Vista before capping the week by assisting the game-winning goal in overtime in a key league road win at Central Oct. 10. During the week, he assumed the team lead in goals (7) and points (17).
Defense: Matt Winegard, Simpson College, Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine
Winegard, a senior defender, scored the go-ahead goal in Simpson’s 2-1 victory over Central and anchored a Simpson defense that allowed only two goals in wo games during the week.

Oct. 4, 2009

Offense: Miguel Bonilla, Loras College, Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar
Bonilla, a junior forward, scored both goals in a 2-1 home win over Central, including the game-winning penalty kick in double overtime. He also drew the foul that led to the penalty kick.
Defense: Grady Brown, Coe College, Madison, Wis./Memorial
Brown, a sophomore goalkeeper, recorded three saves, including one on a penalty shot to preserve the Kohawks’ 1-0 win over Augustana (Ill.).

Sept. 27, 2009

Offense: Connor Skultety, Simpson College, Lincoln, Neb./Southwest
Skultety, a senior midfielder, scored the game-winning goal against Macalester Sept. 27 off a free kick from the top of the box in the 87th minute. The win marked only Simpson’s second win against the Scots and the first since 2000.
Defense: Nick Kasper, University of Dubuque, St. Louis, Mo./Francis Howell
Kasper, a sophomore goalkeeper, allowed one goal and made seven saves as the Spartans opened the Iowa Conference season with a 2-1 win at Luther. It was just the second win all-time for Dubuque, ranked eighth regionally, against Luther.

Sept. 20, 2009

Offense: Alex Beehler, Cornell College, Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central
Beehler, a freshman forward, scored two goals in Cornell’s 5-4 double overtime win over Eureka. His second marker tied the game at the 83-minute mark to force overtime.
Defense: Matt Splittgerber, Loras College, Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown
Splittgerber, a senior defender, tallied two goals and anchored the defensive back as Loras split a pair of games with regionally ranked Wheaton, Ill. (L, 2-3) and Elmhurst (W, 2-1). Scoring one goal in each game, his goal against Elmhurst was the game-winner.

Sept. 13, 2009

Offense: Julian Peota, Cornell College, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest
Peota, a sophomore forward, recorded a hat trick with three goals, including the game-winner, to go along with one assist in an 8-4 win over MacMurray.
Defense: Nick Kasper, University of Dubuque, St. Louis, Mo./Francis Howell
Kasper, a sophomore goalkeeper, posted a 1-1-1 record with a 1.30 goals-against average and a .733 save percentage as the Spartans registered a 5-1 win over North Central (Ill.), forged a 1-1 tie with Clarke and fell 2-1 to Saint John’s (Minn.).

Sept. 6, 2009
Trent Michael, Wartburg College, Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale
Michael, a senior goalkeeper, pushed his opponent’s scoreless time streak to 312 minutes, 48 seconds with three straight shutouts to open the 2009 season. He helped guide the Knights to a 3-0 win over No. 14 Carleton, a double-overtime, scoreless draw with No. 17 Augsburg, and a 1-0 win at Macalester. Michael now has 16 career shutouts.
